MEPHISTO (ITA) – Tyrant’s Return (MC, Satanic Supremacy Distro 2004)

Mephisto deal in simplistic, blackened thrash (or thrashy black?) metal, hugely influenced by Hellhammer and Celtic Frost, very competently played and very well worth a listen. Melodic solos that appear once in a while keep in with the unassuming riffs, and the throaty vocals complement the music perfectly. What can be of harm to the music, though, is the slightly clattering production, but that is not so much of a problem in my case. Look out for the upcoming full length, indeed, meanwhile act fast to obtain this demo since it’s limited to a mere 113 copies.

Mephisto – Tyrant’s Return (Satanic Supremacy Distro)

The band-name isn’t something new, immediately I feel reminded to an old German band (same-titled debut album in 1988 on cultish Wishbone Rec., I like that album with this strange & a bit „warm“ vocals, the German spoken intro and titles like „In Dubio contra Reum“, hehe).
This Mephisto from Italy is also sounding like an eighties band, but not like a Power/Heavy Metal band (as the German one used to be) but more with the roots of Venom and Hellhammer!
The songs are mid-tempo, sometimes fast and chaotic, too! The sound is good and the songs are mostly well-composed! Voice is a more evil version of Tom Warrior, expect also some urghs and arghs!! The xeroxed booklet tries to fool us with the sentence that „…Tyrant’s Return was recorded somewhere in the ´80s…“ and makes a little negative impression! Esp. when you can read in their bio that this band was created in summer 2003! Can’t understand such used lines!!
The 5 song demo-tape is finished too fast, it’s a bit short! But it’s no problem to listen to it again and again! The tape is limited on 133 copies, you better should move your ass pretty fast.

MEPHISTO – Tyrant’s Return – Demo tape- Satanic Supremacy Prodz/Distro

The first loudblast of this young Italian four manlegion is out.
They performs occult Black Metal with some Thrash touches. Really old school, like it was played and desecrate in the late eighties. Some dark guitar riffs, combinate with a harsh bass, possessed of cruel drumming and a total evil, raw rough voice, which is brutal like a fist in the face. Most times MEPHISTO penetrate you with mid tempi playing. If I must find comparable bands I would take DARKTHRONE at “Panzerfaust” times and the early works of DISSECTION and especially CELTIC FROST. 5 songs, an Intro and one outro contains this, which I would call definitely one of the best demo tapes released since the last years. The layout is excellent too, done by Manth ,the singer, himself. Highly recommended and it’s strictly limited on 133 handnumbered copies.
The band feat members by TRIUMPHATOR, VERMIIS and MALVENTO.
